This spring I was honored to be invited by Kyla Strid to be in a show called "Something Completely Different" at the Red Lodge Clay studio. Apparently it is a group show where the current long-term
residents invited two people to participate. The included artists are David Eichelberger, Peter Morgan, Markus Urbanik, Joseph Gower, Jeff Campana, Amanda Small, Conner Mckissack and Audry Deal. Unfortunately I will be unable to attend but I think all the work will be posted on the Red Lodge Clay Studio's website which you can visit by clicking HERE

This is my favorite (and newest) piece that will be included in the exhibition. (I should add this to my website proper but, such updating is one of my summer goals that is yet to be realized.)

It is the "Puffin' Puffin" (I hand turned the ashtray on the wheel all by myself)

I am fortunate enough to be included in the exhibition "Killer Pots" at the Turman Larison Gallery in Helena Montana. This is a pretty exciting show curated by Ayumi Horie and Jess Parker. Here is a quick blurb about the show's premise that I grabbed from the website.

"All of the artists invited to exhibit in “Killer Pots” use imagery, often of animals, in their functional work. Ayumi and Jess challenged the artists to make “killer pots”. Their only two limitations were that the artists stick with “killer” animals, not the likes of human serial killers and such, and that the pieces be functional (loose definition).

I stepped up to the plate and made some crockery for the occasion. Here is my favorite piece!

It is the "Shrike and Cacti Tidbit Tantalizer" This piece is great for when you are entertaining people at semi-formal occasions. It is based upon a piece in the "Bobwhite" line made by Redwing Pottery in 1955.

This weekend I have a piece in a show called Wing and Teeth: The Art of Doomtree. at CO Exhibitions in Minneapolis. If you are not familiar with Doomtree they are a rap crew/ record label etc... from the Twin Cities. To learn more about them check out their website HERE

This year at NCECA I will be in three very exciting exhibitions (one of which I curated)

The Travel Show

I curated this bad boy and it should be pretty awesome.

The Travel Show is an exhibition where participating artists create a work about “place.” Their pieces will be designed such that they are portable and easily shipped, which references the experience of travel. The curator, Peter Morgan, is a widely exhibited artist and teaches ceramics at Gettysburg College. He has selected a diverse array of artists from all over the country, with varied approaches to ceramics. The artists are Pattie Chalmers, Shay Church, Craig Clifford, Brük Dunbar, Gerit Grimm, Del Harrow, Debbie Kupinsky, Peter Morgan, Kristen Morgin, Amy Santoferraro, Kim Tucker, and Derek Weisberg.

Mish Mash Strikes Back: Contemporary Clay Redefined
at The Noyes Museum in Oceanville, NJ

March 4 - June 13, 2010
Opening Reception: March 19, 2010, 5-8 p.m.

Nineteen nationally acclaimed artists stretch the limitations of not only the physical properties of clay, but also the perception of what clay art can be. The voices of fringe, emerging or non-traditional ceramic artists are presented in imaginative applications. The artists engage the viewer by creating mystery or seeking a truth through the manipulation of the medium in an attempt to cause stimulation of the senses. Mish-Mash Strikes Back is part of the South Jersey Clay Tour that includes one-hundred and fifty artists in fourteen different exhibitions at eleven venues across six southern NJ counties.

Participating artists include: Emily Ward Bivens, Matt Burton, Doug Casebeer, Ray Chen, Rick Crowley, David East, Rain Harris, Katherine Johnson, Jerry Kaba, Leigh Taylor Mickelson, Peter Morgan, Jill Oberman, Helen Otterson, Rick Parsons, Kelly & Kyle Phelps, Amy Santoferraro, Todd Shanafelt, Keith Smith, Fred Spaulding and Skeff Thomas.

This show was organized by Matt Burton and is a great exhibit, and it is a nice drive from Philadelphia.
